Taiwan is a diverse, multi-ethnic society with 16 officially recognized Indigenous groups across the island. However, their land rights and natural resources have been historically overlooked and inadequately protected.
To better understand public opinion on this issue, a Taiwan Law and Social Change Survey asked respondents whether they support the government providing financial compensation to Indigenous peoples for the land and natural resources they lost in the past.
Data shows that the majority of respondents leaned against government compensation. 54.9% of respondents were unsupportive of government compensation, compared to 45.1% who were supportive.
