Qualities that people in Taiwan feel that children should have

People who emphasize qualities such as respect for elders, obedience, good manners, and rule-abiding behavior are often seen as having authoritarian predispositions, which are associated with more conservative views on social issues.
The study pairs each quality with an alternative and asks respondents which one they consider more important.
For example: "Being independent" and "being respectful to elders." Which do you think is more important to a child?
Results show that more people in Taiwan prioritize “self-reliance” over “obedience,” while a majority still value “being well-mannered” over “curiosity.”
Overall, views on child-rearing in Taiwan do not lean exclusively toward authoritarian values, but instead reflect a balance between different desirable qualities.
